Kay's Letter

Dear Members and Friends,

Our great vegetarian lifestyle is becoming more and more represented – as well as more and more respected – at Chicago's outdoor festivals and activities.

Be sure to visit Booth #59 when you're at Taste of Chicago. The booth will be on Columbus Drive near Balboa and run by Natural Harvest, a natural food store that's been at 7122 South Jeffrey Boulevard for about 25 years. All of the food will be vegetarian, most of it will be vegan, and some of it will be organic. It'll be serving marinated and grilled herb tofu cutlets, tamales, corn on the cob with soy butter and Creole topping, and cheese fries.

When you visit a north-side beach, be sure to go to the end of Greenleaf Avenue (7044 north) and visit the Heartland Café " Stand in the Sand." You can reach the stand directly at 773.274.6114. Heartland's philosophy is "food for all", and so, along with tofu hot dogs, fresh fruit, rice & beans, salads, and organic and fair trade coffee and tea, you'll find more traditional beach-going food. Heartland is an old friend to Chicago vegetarians, having opened its restaurant at 7000 North Glenwood in 1976.

By the way, the only information you need to leave when calling in a reservation is your name and the event, if we have your current credit-card information.

A little late, but we finally downloaded TurkeyLess Thanksgiving pictures from my camera to our Web site. Many thanks to Go Veggie! photographer Jerry Perkins, and to Joyce Jones and Richard Binder for updating our information at www.go-veggie.org.

Sincerely,

Kay Stepkin
